What is an Intimacy Coach

An intimacy coach is someone who strives to help you feel safer and more comfortable being close to an intimate partner. Comfort with intimacy in a relationship is something most people learn as children. Unfortunately, many grow up without positive experiences around physical or emotional closeness, and so they don’t feel safe engaging in that as adults.

To help you practice with different kinds of intimacy, the intimacy coach guides you to feel safe and experience increased comfort with close connection. There are two main kinds of intimacy that an intimacy coach guide you in: sexual intimacy and emotional intimacy.

Comfort with intimacy needs to be built from the ground up. By addressing attachment wounds, deepening embodiment, increasing presence, and enhancing emotional awareness, your intimacy coach teaches you to get your bearings and begin to relax into an intimate connection.


Working together for internal and external balance of your whole self is the goal. The Greek word for self care is “philautia” which translates most closely to ‘self love’ or ‘love of self.’ The ancient Greeks believed that when philautia was practiced appropriately (in a balanced and non-narcissistic way) it provided the foundation upon which all other love could be built. The more you love yourself, the more you could love others.

Self care through what we put in our bodies and minds tends to improve our immunity, increase positive thinking and make us less susceptible to stress, depression, anxiety and other emotional health issues. Taking time out to care for ourselves helps remind us and others that our needs are important, too. Feeling well cared-for leads to feelings of calm and relaxation, and conveys to others that we value ourselves which contributes to long-term feelings of wellbeing. Taking time regularly for self-care can actually make you a better caretaker for others.
